Succinct: Enabling Queries on Compressed Data
USENIX NSDI, 2015
Abstract
Succinct is a data store that enables efficient queries directly on a compressed representation of the input. Its compression technique permits random access as well as count, search, range, and wildcard queries. Unlike earlier techniques, Succinct supports these operations without storing indexes because the required information is embedded in the compressed representation. On real-world datasets, Succinct uses an order of magnitude less memory than systems with similar functionality, keeping more data in memory and delivering low query latency over a larger range of input sizes.
